I agree with David, baking is more down to earth than cheffin’, but it’s still a thrill when your bread, or cakes, come out fine and not soggy in the middle. Mrs. Bray wouldn’t care for soggy cakes at all 🙁

Wow, David! That is an impressive array of recipes! How lovely to share it, and yes, as well as my two wanting me to bake Sacher Tortes and the like, they do also want to join in and bake things themselves.

It is interesting that this show seems to inspire more than others – I think it’s because we can all bake many of the things they do, but on MasterChef that is more chefy, perhaps?

I’m not so sure in my kitchen, Lisa – I like to shoo everyone out, I’m ashamed to say. I am more tolerant of the children, but the husband has no place in my kitchen – he hates that, bless him!

This year’s series has had a profound impact, we have started making our own bread (we have some dough rising right now) and yesterday after school my wife and youngest daughter made flapjacks – very tasty. We have also spent the recent week-ends making jams, quince jelly, freezing cooking apples, and as for chutney – green tomato, spiced onion, apple to name but a few. And tomorrow we are pickling pears.

And finally, I shall be trying my hand at making a birthday cake on Monday as a surprise for my wife. SO I think it is safe to say that we have enjoyed and been inspired by The Great British Bake Off.
