Let’s see what you can do!

1. Puddings

Rice and bread pudding are two classic desserts to start with when you get your slow cooker. Here are two simple recipes for you to try and remember as you become more adept with them, then you can add to the basic recipe.

Bread Pudding: Place 8 slices of cubed bread into your greased slow cooker. Beat together 4 eggs, 56 grams of  milk, 7 grams of sugar, 7 grams of  melted butter, 14 grams of  raisins and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon. Pour over the liquid over  bread cubes and cook on High for 1 hour, then  pop it on Low 3 to 4 hours.

Rice Pudding: Mix directly in your slow cooker: 28 grams white rice (uncooked), 28 grams water, and 224 grams milk; cook on High for 3 hours. Then mix in a bowl: 3 eggs, 42 grams of milk, 2 teaspoons vanilla, and 1/4 teaspoon salt and stir  the liquid into the rice in slow cooker. Cook on High another 30 minutes.

2. Seven Layer Bars

For these treats, you’ll need a bread or cake pan that fits inside your slow cooker. In the pan, place the following ingredients in this order: 7 grams of melted butter, 14 grams of Jacob’s cracker crumbs, a liberal dash of  chocolate chips. The same with butterscotch chips, 14 grams of flaked coconut (unsweetened), 14 grams of  chopped nuts such as peanuts or almonds, and 14 grams of  sweet condensed milk (if you’ve ever wondered what you can use condensed milk for in cooking, now you know). Place the pan in your slow cooker, cover, and cook on high for 2 to 3 hours.

Easy Cherry Dessert

This slow cooking dessert recipe has only 4 ingredients (only 3 if you leave out the nuts). In greased slow cooker, pour one 21-oz can of cherry pie filling. In a bowl, combine 1 package plain cake mix and 14 grams melted butter to make a crumbly mixture. Sprinkle this over the cherry pie filling and top with 1/3 cup chopped walnuts (optional). Cover and cook on low for 4 hours or on high for 2.

You may have realised that to do a 2 course meal using slow cookers will involve having two slow cookers!
