</span><figcaption id="caption-attachment-4448" class="wp-caption-text">Oi! We&#8217;re shitakes, don&#8217;t just walk away!</figcaption></figure> <h2>1. Cook from scratch at least 3 times a week</h2> <p>What I mean is cooking with ingredients which aren’t pre-made, pre-packed, tinned, frozen or otherwise. Start with fresh meat, vegetables, fruit, legumes, herbs and dried beans (<em>dried is ok!)</em> and let yourself get into some good habits. You know all those off-cuts you end up with when preparing your fresh veggies, please don’t throw them into the bin. It’s much better to throw them into a pan of boiling water with a pinch of salt and use the stock in <a href="https://www.foodontheblog.co.uk/make-japanese-soups/" target="_blank">soups</a>, gravies, casseroles or plan the stock into your next culinary adventure.</p> <h2>2. Every week make a meal you have never made before</h2> <p>Try something new for a change! A lot of people say they end up making the same meal when they cook, whether it’s pasta or meat &amp; two veg, so don’t get caught in the same trap. Come on you love food (<em>or you wouldn’t be reading this!</em>) so make something you love but have never dared or bothered to try making before. Think of your favourite restaurant food as an inspiration or of course look through the recipes here at Food on the Blog and find something new.</p> <h2>3. Try a new ingredient every week</h2> <p>Here I’m talking about an ingredient that is new to your cooking. Use something you would usually walk passed in the supermarket, nothing is that difficult to cook that it should put you off. It could be a herb or vegetable you have never used or maybe try offal (<em>lots of people avoid offal but you get amazingly rich and savoury flavours),</em> whatever it is make sure you give your taste buds something to think about.</p> <figure id="attachment_4446" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-4446" style="width: 300px" class="wp-caption alignleft"><span id="pin-wrapper-4446" class="pin-holder">

					 <span class="pin-clear"></span>
</span><figcaption id="caption-attachment-4446" class="wp-caption-text">Try a new technique!</figcaption></figure> <h2>4. Learn a new technique or style of cooking</h2> <p>Ever used a wok or a <a href="https://www.foodontheblog.co.uk/wonder-can-cook-slow-cooker/" target="_blank">slow cooker</a>? No? Then why not give them a go! Never made a <a href="https://www.foodontheblog.co.uk/naga-lamb-curry-recipe/" target="_blank">curry</a> or <a href="https://www.foodontheblog.co.uk/make-dashi/" target="_blank">Japanese soup</a>?</p> <p>Then what are you waiting for? Get stuck in and look through this and other great recipe sites and give them a try. It may seem daunting but the only way to find out just how easy it is to master something new is to try it.</p> <p>I promise you will impress yourself with what you can do, your taste buds will thank you and your confidence in the kitchen will flourish.</p> <h2>5. Make a regular BIG change to how you eat</h2> <p>If you’re a meat eater try cooking vegetarian for some meals or if you already a vegetarian (<em>no I’m not going to ask you to eat meat!)</em> why not try some raw vegan meals? Whatever you usually do try to mix things up a bit, you never know it may change your whole perception of how and what you eat.</p> <p>So go on, make 2015 the year you became the master of your kitchen and never looked back.</p> <p>I hope all our readers have a wonderful, happy and healthy New Year!</p> <p>Remember to share in the comments below your tips or any other foodie resolutions you know we what to hear about <img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/15.0.3/72x72/1f642.png" alt="🙂" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /></p> <p><a href="https://www.foodontheblog.co.uk/" target="_blank">Michael Robinson</a></p> <div class="skimlinks-disclosure-button"><p><a href="http://go.redirectingat.com/?id=55073X1314650&amp;xs=1&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fskimlinks.com%2F&amp;sref=rss" target="_blank"><img decoding="async" src="https://www.foodontheblog.co.uk/wp-content/plugins/skimlinks/assets/Disclosure_blue.png" style="display:block" title="" alt="" /></a></p></div> <h3>Author information</h3><div class="ts-fab-wrapper" style="overflow:hidden"><div class="ts-fab-photo" style="float:left;width:64px"><img alt='The Food Curator' src='https://secure.gravatar.com/avatar/48e74e42a260eab648a78cfad5062d64?s=64&#038;d=mm&#038;r=g' srcset='https://secure.gravatar.com/avatar/48e74e42a260eab648a78cfad5062d64?s=128&#038;d=mm&#038;r=g 2x' class='avatar avatar-64 photo' height='64' width='64' loading='lazy' decoding='async'/></div><!-- /.ts-fab-photo --><div class="ts-fab-text" style="margin-left:74px"><div class="ts-fab-header"><h4><a href="http://go.redirectingat.com/?id=55073X1314650&amp;xs=1&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Ftinyurl.com%2Fthefoodcurator&amp;sref=rss">The Food Curator</a></h4></div><!-- /.ts-fab-header --><div class="ts-fab-content" style="margin-bottom:0.5em"><p>The Food Curator (AKA Michael Robinson) is an aficionado of all things food and bon viveur based in London.
