The other day a parcel arrived (it was close to my birthday so I was expecting lots presents!), I eagerly opened it and found a new kind of garlic press named Garject by Dreamfarm.

Out of the box it has a nice feel to it, with a good quality weight even thought it’s made of plastic.

My trusty cast metal garlic press has been with me for years. It’s a traditional design and has never let me down, so this was the perfect foil to this new kid on the scene.

So which has the upper hand? Only one way to find out!

I’m looking for a good crush, something I know my old press does and this new one should do, but the new one has a trick up its sleeve. It has an eject button (very James Bond!) which when pressed is said to clean out those pesky bits of garlic which get trapped. My old press falls down here and I have spent so much time over the years scrapping out all of that stuck garlicky goodness.

As you can see the Garject is a bit bigger than my current crusher but it’s just easy to handle.

My old press gave it’s usual effort and a pretty good crush. The Garject however pressed out more and, to my surprise, needed less effort.

If you look at the image you can see how clean the press was from the Garject compared to my traditional model.

Now for the Garject’s trick, I pressed the eject button and voila! Almost 100% of the garlic was removed. Compare that to the old press and you can see how this will make crushing garlic less of a pain.

So is the Garject worth an investment? I think it is because of its ease of use and when you consider the long term benefit of easy cleaning.

It’s definitely a kitchen gadget that even Q would be proud of.
