So much choice!

There are so many pre-packed products to fill up your freezer, when I was growing up there were always burgers and pizza in there and a big bag of beef mince. Of course there were loads of frozen veggies in there too, even though we would usually get fresh vegetables. The idea was you could get a full meal from the freezer at any time.

Fish is great from the freezer, it’s funny that most people don’t realise that the “fresh” fish they get at the supermarket (or anywhere else for that matter) is frozen on the boat on the way back to port…they display it on ice for a reason!

One of my favourites is fish fingers. They are one of those childhood favourites which is a hard thing to let go of. Slap them between two slices of bread with a dollop of tomato ketchup and I’m a happy man.

Another thing I like from the freezer is sesame seed burger buns. They are perfect for when you have a planned or impromptu barbeque!

With so many freezer foods from whole chickens and legs of lamb, from sweet little snacks to full on deserts, it becomes a hard choice to pick a favourite from them all.

For me I am going to give a pretty boring answer – it’s peas. I go with the consensus that frozen peas are better than fresh. Fresh peas start to lose their sweetness the second they are picked. It also then takes an age to shell them when you get them home. Whereas peas which are frozen within minutes of being picked not only taste better and are much more convenient.

Remember to share what your favourite freezer food is in the comment below!

Michael Robinson

Author information

The Food Curator

The Food Curator (AKA Michael Robinson) is an aficionado of all things food and bon viveur based in London. The minute you hear one in the distance the nagging starts “mum, dad can I get an ice cream”.

When I was a kid I remember the range of ice creams as being incredible.
