For review purposes I will be going to different McDonald’s restaurants and ask all of them to make me the burger fresh. This should give me the best possible product at every place.

Missing a week means I’m starting with the McDonald’s Nevada Grande. Described on McDonald’s website as ‘100% beef patty, chilli mayo, crispy onions, shredded lettuce, cheese and a sweet tomato sauce, all served in a chilli-topped lattice bun’, it sounds good but is it worth switching over from a Big Mac or Quarter Pounder with Cheese?

The oblong burger doesn’t look quite the same as the promo pictures and is noticeable thinner, but perhaps someone had been tenderising it in the kitchen with a hammer as it was sticking out of the sides of the long roll.

As for the bun it was more ‘squishy’ and not as firm and rustic as one might have expected when given a lattice bun.

The first bite

The creamy chilli mayo and sweet tomato sauce are the first flavours to hit you and they do work pretty well together. Then it’s the turn of the lettuce and crispy onions to add their texture and flavour to the mix.

There was a little bit of heat coming from the chilli in the mayo and bun which was the best thing about it. As the bun flattened out more and more mimicking the burger at about 2/3 of the way through eating it, the chilli heat built to a satisfying level. Not too hot but enough to let you know there was something there. The cheese didn’t make much of an impact throughout eating.

The last bite

On taking the last bite I was not disappointed with this burger. I’m not a fan of the bun but the rest of it worked together and I enjoyed picking up and eating those crispy onions which had fallen out into the box.

Is it worth trying this over one of your Maccy D’s favourites?

Yes I would give it a try, as it offers something different and is as satisfying as the regular menu items.

Wondering about the Crisscuts (waffle like fried potato) in the main picture? They had a pretty good seasoned flavour but after about 5 of them they were just a bit too dry. It will be fries for me from now on!
