Another week, another McDonald’s ‘Taste of America’ burger. This week it’s the turn of the Texas BBQ.
On McDonald’s website they describe it as ‘100% beef patty, bacon, sticky BBQ sauce, crispy onions, shredded lettuce and cheese in a simply delicious sesame-topped bun’…they sure are loving those crispy onions at McD’s right now!
As you can see the burger has the same oblong shape as the Nevada Grande last week. Is this the shape of burgers to come…well it is for this promotion but I doubt it will take over the good ol’ round burger.
I had the Texas BBQ on it’s own with now sides this week, maybe we can call it the ‘healthy option’ 😉
First bite
Now this has that distinct McDonald’s taste, think Quarter Pounder with Cheese taste, not Big Mac.
It was lacking in any kind of BBQ taste at this stage, but the bacon was a a nice addition. It had a good (McDonald’s) texture to it and the patty tasted sufficiently ‘beefy’, working well with the lettuce and crispy onions.
But where is that BBQ flavour? As I found out it’s right in the middle, a big blob of sweet BBQ sauce and it was really nice combined with the rest of the burger. It had a good level of cheesiness throughout making it rich and creamy.
Last bite
The BBQ flavour stayed until the end as did the bacon and very nice it was too. The bun was great, I love a sesame seed bun and this was a classic in the McDonald’s style.
The sweet and tangy BBQ sauce reminded me of the legendary McRib more than the dip you get with McNuggets, and it really made this special.
I like this a lot and would get it over a Quarter Pounder Cheese any day of the week, unfortunately it’s only around for a few more.
Please remember to comment below if you have had a Texas BBQ burger!
