As I lover of Thai food, I ventured to Patara in South Kensington. They have four locations in London and several more internationally, including Bangkok.
This is an upmarket chain of restaurants and this is apparent from the Fulham Road location to the swanky interior.
I must say although they position themselves in βposhβ areas of town, the place is comfortable, accessible and offers service with a smile.
The starter I chose was the Miang Guaytiew, three types of rice paper roll, prawn, crabmeat and duck served with chilli sauce. They were really tasty and had a good texture. I
love dishes like this which let you have a variety of flavours, although the white crabmeat was a little bit lost against the lime spiked chilli sauce.
For my main course (and to keep the variety going!) I opted for the Panaeng Nong Gae. This is an impressive looking dish, a whole shank of lamb in a red curry sauce. I love lamb cooked the Thai way, the richness of the meat matches the richness of the coconut based sauce and the chilli and kaffir lime leaves cut through it all beautifully.
If you like Thai food this offers the cuisine as you know and love it. There are no surprises here but sometimes thatβs a good thing. In fact I had to ask for a small plate of chopped red chillies on the side of my red curry to get the heat up to how I like it.
I thoroughly enjoyed the meal, if you are looking for a Thai restaurant to take a date to or have a special meal I can recommend Patara.
They have a lot of interesting dishes on the menu, and there were a couple of curries that I just might have to go back for π

I quite like Thai food, and you know what a picky eater I am! Miang Guaytiew sounds delicious, I’ll look out for it in our local restaurants.

Sarah, well worth giving them a go π
South Ken was one of my regular haunts for restaurants and bars when I lived down the road (in a less expensive suburb). My husband did the accounts for a friend who owned a French restaurant and we went to private parties there that went through the night, ending with French Onion soup at dawn.
I imagine that times have changed and the restaurants now offer many different nationalities of food? Your Thai meal looks delicious.
